Property Design

Small to large scale property and landscape design and implementation. The approach is guided by a caretaker's/client's priorities and utlises the unique biological and climate conditions of the site. Science and creativity is combined to maximise the ecological productivity and ecosystem services to wildlife and people. Our approach will suit those who consider themselves caretakers of their land, who wish  to regenerate it and/ or want to grow their own food and transition towards a more sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle.

Our Services

  • Zone and general layout of the property

  • Ideal site selection for each element

  • Vegetable gardens, orchards, mushroom cultivation

  • Compost, cover crops and other biological based soil and plant amendments

  • Ecological assessments, flora and fauna identification lists

  • Native revegetation and bushland management

  • High resolution aerial imagery and geospatial mapping

  • Soil testing and interpretation of the results

Each property is designed according to the unique environmental conditions and circumstances of the caretaker to ensure a meaningful and achievable property plan. Designs can include all or some of the following:

Veggie Garden Design

IMG_4540 (Custom)_edited.jpg

A vegetable garden can be about producing the maximum amount of food for your family that takes hours a week of ongoing care and loving attention. Or it can be designed to thrive with independence provided by robust plants, automatic irrigation and placement within the context of the land. It can be creative, experimental and aesthetically driven or a purely practical design to produce maximum food with minimal trouble.

01

Site details and client profile

During the initial consultation, we identify your design goals and priorities. We also discuss the level of involvement you desire in the establishment of the design and ongoing maintenance. Each client is asked to complete a questionnaire to provide the necessary information and stimulate key considerations and decisions to guide the personalised, realistic design that will remain suitable for the long term.

02

Baseline property map

I create the baseline map of your property using mapping software (GIS) to incorporate terrain, elevation, watercourse and vegetation. This provides the landscape context of your property and gives a good indication on a suitable layout. These maps are georeferenced and can be easily operated as a live map on your smart device.

03

Site visit

I will conduct a site visit prepared with clear objectives established in the initial consultation and preliminary design ideas generated from the baseline mapping process. Typically, we will know the major and minor elements we're aiming to situate throughout your property. We will envision how best these elements may be situated to maximise food productivity, lifestyle and usability, conservation and ecological restoration as defined by yourself.

04

Draft property design

Following the site visit and follow-up discussions. I will build upon the basemap to include all the design elements and associated information to clearly detail the purpose and inter-relationship with other elements and overall property design. Property maps and a report will be provided for your review and commentary.
